If you’ve ever commented “LINK” under an Instagram post and instantly received a DM with a download, you’ve probably met Manychat. It’s the tool that made comment-to-DM automation mainstream, and it now runs automated conversations across Instagram, Facebook Messenger, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email. Manychat says it’s an official Meta Business Partner and also works as a TikTok partner.
For creators and social-first brands, it’s one of the most useful tools you can buy. It turns comments and follows into conversations, collects emails and phone numbers, and sends people to a sale without you living in your inbox. The 2026 pricing model needs more thought, though, because you now pay by monthly Active Contacts. Busy accounts should check the overage math before they pick a plan.

Manychat pricing in 2026
Manychat now offers a Free plan and four paid tiers, priced on how many people you interact with each month. We checked these prices on October 24, 2026, in US dollars before tax.
| Plan | Annual billing | Monthly billing | Active Contacts included | Extra contacts (monthly plan) | Channels |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 25 | n/a | Up to 2 |
| Essential | $14/mo ($168/yr) | $17/mo | 250 | $0.10 each | Up to 2 |
| Pro | $29/mo ($348/yr) | $39/mo | 2,500 | $0.05 each | Up to 3 |
| Business | $69/mo ($828/yr) | $99/mo | 7,500 | $0.025 each | All |
| Advanced | $139/mo ($1,668/yr) | $199/mo | 25,000 | $0.004 each | All |
Manychat AI is included from Pro upward. Email sending is capped by plan, from 10,000 to 100,000 emails a month on the higher tiers, and Business and Advanced get priority support. Prices can vary by billing country.
How Active Contacts work
An Active Contact is one real person you interact with during a monthly billing period, through automations, AI, broadcasts or the live inbox. It doesn’t matter how many messages you exchange with them. One person equals one contact for that month.
Two details matter in practice:
- Overages don’t switch off your automations. You pay per extra contact, and you can set an overage limit to cap the bill.
- Upgrading mid-cycle forgives overages already incurred that month, so it’s often cheaper to move up a plan than to pay extras.
A quick example: a Pro account that talks to 3,500 people in a month on a monthly plan pays $39 plus 1,000 extra contacts at $0.05, or $89. Business at $99 would cover up to 7,500.
What Manychat does best
- Comment-to-DM and story-reply automation on Instagram and Facebook, the feature most creators buy it for
- Lead capture inside DMs, collecting emails and phone numbers without a landing page
- Visual flow builder with templates for giveaways, lead magnets and product drops
- Multi-channel inbox so a team can take over from automation
- AI replies on Pro and above to handle common questions
- Integrations with Shopify, Google Sheets, Zapier and major email platforms
Manychat’s strength is speed. A creator can set up a working lead magnet in an afternoon.
A typical first flow looks like this: someone comments a keyword on a Reel, Manychat replies publicly and sends a DM, asks for an email address, then delivers the freebie and tags the contact for a later broadcast. Most of that comes ready-made in templates.
Trials, refunds and cancelling
The Free plan needs no credit card. Essential and Pro can be tried free for 14 days. Upgrades start a new billing period straight away, with the unused part of your old plan credited. Downgrades take effect at the next billing period, and annual plans can’t be downgraded or switched to monthly until the term ends. If it’s been under 30 days since you bought a plan, Manychat says you can cancel and request a refund through support.
What users complain about
Manychat is well liked, but the same complaints come up across reviews:
- Cost at scale. Large audiences can push a creator into Business or Advanced quickly.
- Channel limits on lower plans, with only 2 channels on Essential.
- Platform rules. Meta’s messaging policies, including the 24-hour reply window, limit what you can send and when.
- Support speed on lower tiers, since priority support starts at Business.
- A learning curve once flows get complex.
The platform rules aren’t Manychat’s fault, but they shape what’s possible. Meta’s Messenger Platform policy overview is worth a skim before you plan promotional messages.
Tips to keep it compliant and cheap
- Start on Essential or Pro and watch your real Active Contact count for a month.
- Set an overage limit so a viral post doesn’t surprise you.
- Get consent for email and SMS. The FTC’s CAN-SPAM compliance guide covers the email side.
- Clean inactive contacts so you’re not paying to message people who never reply.
- Pay annually once you’re sure, which saves 18% to 30%.

Many businesses pair Manychat with an email tool. Our ActiveCampaign review covers deep email automation, and GetResponse and AWeber are simpler options. If you want funnels and courses in one place, see Systeme.io. For video to feed your social posts, our Pictory review covers AI video from text. More tools are in our marketing tools reviews.
Who should skip Manychat
Skip it if you get little social engagement, if your audience lives mainly on email, or if you need a full CRM rather than chat automation. The pros and cons are below.
Our verdict on Manychat
Manychat is still the best-known way to automate Instagram and social DMs, and it can turn comments into leads and sales with very little setup. The Active Contacts pricing is fair for small and mid-size accounts, especially on Pro. Larger creators should model their monthly contacts and set an overage cap, but for most social-first businesses it pays for itself.
